SPM Beauty: Navigating the Drugstore, Spring Edition

For us beauty enthusiasts, spring is the perfect time to clean out our makeup stashes and try out some new products. For college students who may not want splurge on Chanel or Tom Ford, the drugstore has some fantastic options. However, navigating through the sea of unfamiliar products in the cosmetics section of the CVS can be pretty overwhelming. SPM Beauty is here to guide you on your cosmetic journey!

Maybelline “Color Tattoos”

Since the weather is getting warmer, eye shadow has a tendency to slide off the eyelids. If you use a great cream eye shadow as a base, it will help your powder shadows show up more saturated, true to color, and stay put longer. The Maybelline “Color Tattoos” are the best cream eye shadows available in the drugstore! Along with being great bases, they can also be worn alone without primer. My personal favorite is “Bad to the Bronze,” however in their limited edition spring line, there are some awesome colors such as “Inked in Pink” and “Electric Blue.”

L’Oreal “Infallible Eye Shadows”

Much like the “Color Tattoos,” these eye shadows are extremely long-wearing and pigmented. They’re fantastic on their own, but over an awesome cream eye shadow base, they aren’t going anywhere any time soon. With this line, you also have a wide range of colors to choose from! My personal favorites are two neutral staples: “Amber Rush” and “Bronzed Taupe.”

Revlon “Nearly Naked" Pressed Powder

With warmer weather comes oily skin, which can be easily warded off with a pressed powder. Since you’ll probably lay off the heavy liquid foundation, you may want your powder to pack a little more punch coverage-wise. The Revlon “Nearly Naked” is a silky powder that has a matte, yet natural-looking finish. It also has light coverage that can be buffed into a medium coverage with a dense brush. This has been my springtime staple, and I never leave the house without it.

Milani “Liquif’eye” Eye Pencil

Soft, pigmented and long-wearing pencils are hard to find in the drugstore. Whether you like to coat your water line, line your top lash line or smudge all over your eyelid as a base, the Milani “Liquif’eye” is the perfect pencil to incorporate into your daily routine. If black is a little too stark on your features, you can opt for a brown shade.

Covergirl “Clump Crusher”

Much like the coveted Covergirl “Lash Blast,” the “Clump Crusher” mascara has taken the beauty community by storm. This is a great thickening mascara that can create both natural and glamorous lashes. It’s got a dry formula that layers wonderfully. This is one of the best new mascara releases from the drugstore this season.

Revlon “PhotoReady” Cream Blush

Coming from someone who was once terrified of cream blush, the Revlon “PhotoReady” cream blushes are some of the most forgiving and easy to use. They have a cream-to-powder formula, making it easy to use with and without a brush. I love the shade “Pinched,” which is a natural peachy-pink. However, if you want something a little more bold this season, try "Coral Reef," which is a buildable coral color, or “Flushed,” which is an intense fuchsia.

Revlon “Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains”

These awesome lip pencils are a mouthful to say, but are absolutely worth the extra effort. Each of these pencils are pigmented, moisturizing, lightly scented, easy to use and long-wearing. As far as Holy Grail lip products are concerned, Revlon has all of your bases covered. I love the shades “Honey,” a neutral pink, and “Rendezvous,” a bright orange color. If neither of those tickle your fancy, you can check out the 10 other color options in the line.

Revlon “PhotoReady” BB Cream

This wasn’t mentioned in the video, but I know there has been a total craze of BB cream (otherwise known as Beauty Balms) here in the United States. Beauty Balms were first created in Germany, but were initially made popular in Asia. They are widely known as alternatives to liquid foundations, with extra-beneficial skin care properties, such as sun protection and primer. The U.S. has very recently hopped on the BB cream bandwagon. Coming from someone who has come across dud after dud in the drugstore, I’m pleased to say that Revlon takes the crown yet again. This BB Cream is light in texture, buildable in coverage and natural in finish. With that extra SPF 30 to protect you from the Arizona rays, this would make an awesome addition to your daily foundation routine!
