If you’re like me, you’re a procrastinator when it comes to organizing your clothes. To me it’s my biggest nightmare to go into my room and see a pile of clothing that is unorganized, so I tend to throw as many clothes into my closet and drawers as I can fit.

Last week I decided to do some spring cleaning and finally go through all of the clothes that have been neglected the past few months. Through the process I came up with some tips for all my fellow procrastinators and fashionistas that need some organization in their lives!

Tip 1. If you can’t see it you won’t wear it!

First and foremost, start by taking everything out that is buried away in the back of your closet and bottoms of your drawers. From here you can really begin the process, and who knows, you might even find some treasures you haven’t seen in a while.

Tip 2. Make piles

Separate your clothing into three different piles — keep, give away, and revamp. Try not to think too much while you’re doing this, and let intuition take charge (time will go by way faster!) Make it a rule if you have to think more than ten seconds about whether or not to keep the clothing either put it in the give away or revamp pile! Then go through your keep pile a second time.

Tip 3. Recycle

Go through your revamp pile and see what you can do to recycle! It’s likely that you liked the patterns at one point, but the fit is outdated. Use these fabrics to make something new, like a tote bag or a pair of shorts. You might even find a something that can be styled great with a new piece, so keep that in mind.

Tip 4. Your rags may be another’s treasures

Invite friends over to go through your give away pile, or take it to buffalo exchange to make a little cash. Donate whatever is left.

Tip 5. Coordinate your closet and drawers

The last step of organizing is putting everything away. Try coordinating your closet so it is easy to find what you’re looking for. Whether by color or style, it’s really what works best for you! Happy spring cleaning!
