Week of August 26

The season premiere of SP Weekly dives into the importance of mental health for students dealing with depression or other mental health concerns. For the start of the fall semester thousand of students are returning to ASU campuses to complete their personal education aspirations, all while trying to enjoying the college life. Yet, many students struggle with simple day-to-day tasks because of clinically diagnosed depression, anxiety or other mental health issues. For many of these students, life, let alone life at a major university, can be daunting.

We talk with director of Counselling Services, Dr. Barbara Meehan, about the statistics of students dealing with mental health concerns, and helping students while attending ASU. We also speak with sophomore Nick Shannon, who shares a personal look into his battle with depression, how he is winning his fight against the mood disorder and maintaining his happiness while in school.
