It's not your pool. It's not your team's pool. It's simply a pool.
The Los Angeles Dodgers did nothing wrong when they celebrated their division championship by going swimming in the pool behind the right field fence at Chase Field last Thursday night.
The time to be protective of the pool was during the game and on the field, when the Arizona Diamondbacks could have prevented the entire fiasco by simply holding their 6-3 lead. Instead, they blew it. They lost the division, and they let their rival clinch it in their ballpark.
Speaking of the rivalry, would DBacks fans be so miffed if, say the St. Louis Cardinals clinched the NL Central and celebrated in the pool? Probably not.
The Diamondbacks don't have a natural rival. The process of becoming rivals is a beautiful one, and situations like this are necessary for a hatred to brew between two teams.
This is a good thing for both teams in the end, but if the Diamondbacks didn't want to be disrespected, it would have been easy to prevent it. Maybe next year, Arizona can clinch the NL West in Dodger Stadium and celebrate by eating Dodger Dogs with Vin Scully.
