September brings pumpkin-spice-flavored everything, sweater season — in the more fortunate parts of the country — and most importantly, a whole new slew of television shows.
A show that has already gotten a lot of hype is NBC’s “The Blacklist.” Three-time Emmy winner James Spader stars as Raymond “Red” Reddington, one of America’s most wanted fugitives who forges a deal with the FBI to take down other brilliant criminal masterminds.
His one contingency is that he works with rookie agent Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone). What looks to be a very promising thriller with a new twist, “The Blacklist” should be one to watch this season. Tune in Sept. 23 on NBC for this adrenaline-filled and suspenseful show.
If you're looking to watch something more lighthearted, Fox’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is sure to come with its fair share of laughs. This show stars Andy Samberg as immature detective Jake Peralta, along with his rugged, tough and rule-abiding captain, Ray Holt (Andre Braugher). The premise is reminiscent of “21 Jump Street,” and it looks to put a spin on typical and mundane detective dramas. Catch “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Sept. 17 on Fox.
“The Crazy Ones” stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Williams in a father and daughter comedy. Williams plays Simon Roberts, a genius with his fair share of quirky eccentricities who runs Roberts and Roberts advertising company. Gellar plays his level-headed daughter, Sydney. What looks to be a hilarious and refreshing comedy, “The Crazy Ones” premieres Sept. 26on CBS.
Another show that is bound to soon become a cult favorite is Marvel Television and ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” S.H.I.E.L.D. resurrects Agent Phil Coulson, who so tragically died at the hands of Loki in “The Avengers.” Joss Whedon’s newest drama focuses on the assembly of a team of top-secret agents who protect "the ordinary from the extraordinary." This show has potential and will likely grab the attention of Marvel fans. Look for the premiere on Sept. 24 on ABC.
“The Michael J. Fox Show” stars Michael J. Fox as a retired news anchor who, after taking time off to focus on family and his Parkinson’s disease, decides to return to his career. NBC seems to be banking on the success of this show, having already ordered a 22-episode first season with no plans for a pilot. This new comedy has a touch of humility and heart and premieres Sept. 26 on NBC.
“The Originals” is The CW's most anticipated fall premiere. A spinoff of "The Vampire Diaries," "The Originals" stars bad boy vampire Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), as he and his vampire siblings travel to New Orleans to reunite with Klaus’s protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis).
Marcel runs the city with an army of vampires and witches, yet Klaus chooses to stay in New Orleans after he learns that a one-night stand leaves Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) pregnant with a child that could one day rule the city. This show should be a favorite among fans of its sister series. “The Originals” debuts Thursday, Oct. 3 on The CW.
