The school motto for Eastern Washington University is “start something big,” and that’s exactly what the Eagles did Saturday afternoon versus Oregon State University's football team.
Their 49-46 victory in Corvallis was big for the FCS program, which won 11 games last season, but also raised some serious questions about Mike Riley’s Oregon State Beavers.
The Beavers have now lost twice at home to FCS opponents in the last three seasons, the other loss coming at the hands of Sacramento State in 2011.
This loss was worse than their 29-28 overtime heartbreaker to the Hornets, though.
The Beavers gave up 625 yards of total offense Saturday to the Eagles and didn’t force a single turnover.
Eagles' sophomore quarterback Vernon Adams torched the Beavers' defense for 411 yards passing, 107 yards rushing and six touchdowns by himself.
Oregon State isn’t supposed to be a bottom dweller in the Pac-12, either.
It was ranked 25th in the preseason AP poll after its nine-win season a year ago.
The Beavers offense was plenty effective, but that doesn’t mask the reality of the matter.
Oregon State got dominated by an FCS school for the second time in three seasons, and Mike Riley’s seat is quickly heating up.
