The Pac-12 did it again, going undefeated in non-conference games and blowing up scoreboards in the process. Three Pac-12 teams put up more than 40 points in non-conference games.
Here’s a quick glance at how the conference fared Saturday.
No. 13 UCLA vs. New Mexico State: UCLA W 59-13
When the Bruins took the field for their first play against the Aggies, they did so with only 10 players. The missing man was in honor of Nick Pasquale, a UCLA receiver who was killed after being hit by a car on Sept. 8. After the ceremonial gesture, UCLA proceeded to rip apart NMSU, putting up a gaudy 692 yards of offense. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Bret Hundley threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns but also threw two picks.No. 17 Washington vs. Idaho State: Washington W 56-0
There wasn’t even a challenge for the No. 17 Huskies in this one. Senior quarterback Keith Price continued his resurgence against the Bengals, passing for 213 yards and three touchdowns in just over a half of work. Junior running back Bishop Sankey, the FBS leader in rushing yards per game, chipped in 77 rushing yards and a touchdown on only four carries. As a whole, the Huskies piled up 680 yards of offense against their overmatched FCS foe.USC vs. Utah State: USC W 17-14
The Trojans’ offense struggled once again but their defense managed to prevent the upset against the Aggies. The USC defense managed to keep the Utah State dual-threat quarterback, junior Chuckie Keeton, from hurting them, limiting Keeton to 179 passing yards with two touchdowns and 15 rushing yards for the game. USC kept the Aggies under 300 yards of offense but managed only 282 offensive yards of its own. They will need to find some answers on offense before heading to Tempe, Ariz. for a date with ASU next week.Oregon State vs. San Diego State: OSU W 34-30
It took three fourth-quarter scores for the Beavers to come from behind and beat the Aztecs Saturday. The passing game was on point for the Beavers as junior quarterback Sean Mannion passed for 367 yards and three touchdowns; however, their running game was abysmal. OSU managed only 10 rushing yards in the game. Next up for the Beavers is a home game against a 2-0 Colorado Buffaloes squad.Utah vs. BYU: Utah W 20-13
This edition of the Holy War went to the Utes. Utah sophomore quarterback Travis Wilson threw for 273 yards and two scores while sophomore running back James Poole chipped in 96 yards on the ground. Down, 13-0 at halftime, BYU would outscore the Utes 13-7 in the second half to try and make a comeback, but it was too little, too late. Utah’s schedule gets tougher next week as they welcome UCLA to Rice-Eccles Stadium.Washington State vs. Idaho: WSU W 42-0
For the first time since 2006, the Cougars are 3-1 after trouncing Idaho on Saturday. The Cougars’ junior quarterback Connor Halliday threw for 346 yards and four touchdowns, all of which came in the first half.Sophomore running back Jeremiah Laufasa added 41 yards and two scores on the ground for the Cougars. WSU’s defense was also stingy, allowing only 253 yards and sacking Idaho State freshman quarterback Chad Chalich six times.
