Police: Man arrested after mother finds stolen items in his room

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

  • A 20-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sept. 30 on the 40 block of Citation Lane on suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession and being a felon in possession of a handgun, according to a police report.

Police arrived at his residence after his mother called them and said she found the handgun and other paraphernalia on his bed as he slept, police said.

The man was detained and patted down for weapons, police reported. Officers found a syringe in his pocket, and he admitted he was a heroin user, according to the report.

The man told authorities that he found the handgun, iPad and other items his mother discovered in his room along a canal, police said.

The man told officers the items had been stolen from vehicles parked in the Alisanos neighborhood, police reported.

He then showed officers the location and vehicles from which he found the items, according to the report.

The iPad was taken from a black Ford pickup and the handgun was found in a Jeep parked in a driveway, police said.

Victims of the burglaries, as well as the man’s mother, will aid in prosecution, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe County Jail, where he was booked, the report said.

  • A 30-year-old Pico Rivera, Calif., man was arrested Sept. 29 at Apache Boulevard and Rural Road on suspicion of driving under the influence and drug paraphernalia possession according to a police report.

Police stopped the man for driving without his lights on and failing to maintain a single lane, police said.

Police said the man had bloodshot eyes and slurred his speech. The man told police he had one beer, according to the report.

Officers asked the man to exit the vehicle so they could administer a field sobriety test, according to the report.

The man could not walk without swaying and had alcohol on his breath, police said.

The field sobriety test showed signs of impairment, according to the report.

Police said that upon searching the vehicle they found marijuana, a glass pipe with burnt black residue and the lid to a grinder in the center console.

After police read the man his rights, he said he owned the marijuana, but said he had a medical marijuana card he left in California, according to the report.

He then admitted to consuming four or five beers, police reported.

The man was taken to Tempe County Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the report.
