This would have been a great year for a four-team playoff.
Instead, Alabama, Oregon, FSU, Ohio State and Baylor are playing into a nightmare scenario in the final season of the BCS.
All are undefeated, and all are dominating their opponents. If just three of these teams close the regular season without a loss, we’re headed to another BCS controversy, a la Auburn in 2004.
This week could provide separation, though, as three of the undefeated teams take on teams ranked in the top 15.
Oregon faces No. 5 Stanford on Thursday, Baylor takes on No. 10 Oklahoma Thursday and Alabama clashes with No. 13 LSU Saturday.
However, the Seminoles, who defeated Miami by four touchdowns last week, and the Buckeyes, which are steamrolling everybody in their path, aren’t scheduled to play another ranked team until their respective conference championship games.
The Buckeyes have skated by on a weak regular season schedule, playing one ranked team so far. Baylor hasn’t played a single ranked team, though that will change in these next few weeks.
Upsets happen every year. I just don’t think enough will happen this year, and we’ll have one last controversy in the BCS.
