Losing streaks are one of the toughest things to come back from in sports.
They are demoralizing, confidence-shattering strings of loses that can ruin a team’s entire season, and the seven-game regular-season losing streak that the Penguins are on now can be a slippery slope.
However, with Monday’s game against the Bruins, despite a loss in OT, they still showed a light at the end of the tunnel that could lead them out of this funk.
When Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby scored with 0.3 seconds left with regulation, after starting 0-2 in the first period against a renowned hockey powerhouse in the Boston Bruins, it showed not only team tenacity and mental toughness but also hope.
To me, the Penguins are a team in a slump hoping to get out, not a team that needs to worry about its season slipping away. A loss is a loss, but to lose to the Bruins is no shame. They came back and put the Bruins on the fences showing that they are still going to be contenders in the Eastern Conference.
Don’t count the Penguins out yet folks. You haven’t seen anything yet.
