Devil Dish: Rose's rehab left him wilted

I am a native Chicagoan and die-hard Chicago Bulls fan.

That said, just six games into the 2013-14 season, I can't help but criticize Derrick Rose for what seems like a mishandled and excessive 15-month rehabilitation period.

Rose is averaging just 14.5 points per game this season, but what is more concerning is his .333 field-goal percentage and his already ailing body.

Rose nearly missed the Bulls' regular season home opener with a minor neck injury and suffered a slight hamstring injury on Nov. 11.

He looks disjointed at best and can't seem to figure out the speed of the game. You can practice, lift weights and shoot as much as you want, bu there is just no substitute for live NBA action.

At this point, it's hard to say that Rose's rehab didn't have negative effects on his game.

The Bulls are just 3-3 and look to be quickly digging themselves a hole in the Central Division, especially with the Indiana Pacers off to an 8-0 start.

If Rose doesn't get back to his all-star form soon (or at least to regular game physical shape), this will be the third season in a row that one ACL tear has cost the Bulls a shot at the championship.
