Devil Dish: The Kansas City Chiefs have proven nothing

The Kansas City Chiefs are 9-0 and are ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in just about every power ranking out there. They’re legit.

Just stop.

The combined record of the teams the Chiefs have beaten is 23-42, and they have not played a team with a winning record all season.

As the season goes on, it really doesn’t get that much harder for the Chiefs, either. Of their remaining seven games, they have three that will test them: two against the Denver Broncos (8-1) and one against the Indianapolis Colts (6-3).

The other four are against the Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders and two against the San Diego Chargers — not exactly teams that strike fear into an opponent’s heart.

Yes, Kansas City is benefitting from the sixth-best passing defense in football (208.3 yards per game) but look at the quarterbacks it has faced.

Everything the Chiefs have done can be chalked up to the easiest schedule in the league.

A quick list of the teams that would obliterate the Chiefs on a neutral field: Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints. I see the Chiefs as no better than the No. 7 team in the NFL — at best.

If the Chiefs beat the Broncos next week (they won’t), then we can start talking about Kansas City having a great football team.
