It was a week of blowouts in the Pac-12 where one top-10 team was knocked off while another blew its rival away. Here's how the conference played out in this week's Pac-12 roundup.
No. 5 Oregon vs. Arizona: UA W 42-16
Not only did the Wildcats upset the Ducks, they flat blew them out of the water. The Wildcats, in large part, have junior running back Ka’Deem Carey to thank for the win. Carey carried the rock 48 times for 206 yards and a whopping four touchdowns. Senior quarterback B.J. Denker chipped in 178 passing yards on 19 completions and two touchdowns. For the Ducks, it was an uncharacteristically rough game for redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota. Mariota passed for 308 yards and two touchdowns but also threw his first two interceptions of the year.
No. 9 Stanford vs. Cal: Stanford W 63-13
Rivalry games can be tricky. With so much passion and energy, you never know when an upset may be looming. That became a moot point because the “Big Game” became a huge blowout. Junior quarterback Kevin Hogan was on point, passing for 329 yards and five TDs. Four of those scores went to junior wideout Ty Montgomery who, with an added rushing touchdown, tied a school record with five touchdowns.
No. 23 USC vs. Colorado: USC W 47-29
USC may have yet another star running back in the making, and his name is Javorius Allen. The redshirt sophomore ran all over the Buffaloes, averaging 6.9 yards per carry on his 21 attempts for 145 yards and two touchdowns. The Buffaloes really had little to cheer about, allowing 449 yards overall and 243 of them on the ground. CU freshman quarterback Sefo Liufau was solid, going 17-of-33 for 188 yards and two touchdowns
Utah vs. Washington State: WSU W 49-37
It only took seven years, but it finally happened. The Cougars are bowl eligible. WSU won its sixth game of the year largely thanks to the arm of quarterback Connor Halliday. The redshirt junior passed for 488 yards on 39-of-62 passing with four touchdowns. Utah sophomore quarterback Adam Schulz had a solid game of his own, going 21-of-46 for 347 yards and three touchdowns but he also had two costly first-quarter interceptions, both of which the Cougars returned for touchdowns.
Washington vs. Oregon State: Washington W 69-27
Washington ran right over Oregon State. Literally. The Huskies ran the ball for 530 of their 692 total yards and had three different back rush for over 140 yards. Washington junior running back Bishop Sankey led all rushers with 179 yards and three touchdowns. Junior running back Deontae Cooper ran for 166 yards and two touchdowns and redshirt freshman running back Dwayne Washington ran for 141 yards and two scores. The Beavers didn’t even manage to get a point on the board until the fourth quarter, but by then it was far, far too late.
