Devil Dish: Dramatic ASU volleyball season worth the wild ride

Covering the ASU volleyball team this season has been a wild ride.

From losing sophomore setter Allison Palmer to sweeping No. 2 and reigning national champion Texas, there hasn’t been a dull moment.

The Sun Devils started off 11-1, their best start since 1985, then lost seven straight, then finished the second half of the conference schedule 6-4.

Nothing has been predictable about the ASU volleyball team this season, but if one thing is for certain, it’s that this team is resilient.

The Sun Devils have fought through injuries, lineup changes and a seven-game losing streak that nearly cost them a postseason berth.

And just when the Sun Devil faithful thought the rollercoaster ride of a season would end, ASU squeaked into the national tournament.

I didn’t expect them to make the NCAA tourney, but I wasn’t surprised by it either.

With the way this season has gone, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a deep tournament run.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that this team is exciting. And while they might quicken your heart rate and raise your blood pressure, it will all be worth it in the end.

Because regardless of what happens in the NCAA tournament, there’s no denying that this has been a special season.
