An ASU charter bus collided with a 58-year-old man around 3 p.m. Tuesday near East Washington and 44th Streets in Phoenix, according to an email sent at 7 p.m. by Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department Public Affairs Bureau.

The man was crossing south to north in the middle of the block when the bus collided with him, according to the email.

Holmes said the bus was carrying around 50 ASU students, who were detained at the scene as witnesses.

The man was transferred to a local hospital and is in critical condition, Holmes said.

Westbound traffic on East Washington Street is still restricted at 44th Street with no estimated time of reopening, according to the email.
