Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:
A 35-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Nov. 7 on the 1300 block of West Elliot Road on suspicion of shoplifting, narcotic drug possession, possession of contraband inside a jail facility and being a fugitive from a felony warrant, according to a police report.
Employees inside Wal-Mart attempted to detain the man after loss prevention reported he had passed all points of purchase without paying for several movies he had removed from shelves, police reported.
After the man fought back, employees searched him and found two folding knives and a plastic wrap with 10 prescription Clonazepam pills inside, according to the report.
Once the officer arrived on the scene, the man was read his Miranda rights and confessed to shoplifting in order to pay for from drugs purchased from a man identified as “Buck” from Guadalupe, according to the report.
The man stated he had taken the Clonazepam pills from his brother in order to get over his heroin addiction, police said.
The officer proceeded to ask the man if he had any other drugs or paraphernalia on him and warned that he would be charged if any were found during the strip search, to which the man assured he did not, police reported.
During the strip search at Tempe City Jail, the officer came across heroin wrapped in tin foil inside a plastic wrap in the man’s anus, according to the police report.
The man was booked and held in Tempe City Jail to see a judge, according to the report.
A 20-year-old Tempe man was arrested in the 2700 block of South Alder Drive on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in consumption, according to the police report.
Officers were called about a party, and when they arrived they smelled marijuana after approaching the man, police reported.
The man informed police that he was under 21, had drank one Guinness Extra Stout and that the marijuana belonged to him, according to the report.
The officers administered a preliminary breathalyzer test, and the man blew a 0.094, police reported. The man informed officers that he had taken five shots of whiskey prior to consuming the Guinness, according to the report.
The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the report.
