Washington State 24, No. 13 ASU 21

WSUvsASU-Half2

ASU took about a quarter and a half to awaken from its zombie-like state that had the Sun Devils down 21-7 to a Washington State team, but when it did, it came back with a vengeance.

A sluggish start from redshirt senior quarterback Taylor Kelly led to multiple three-and-outs, as both teams traded off punts.

The Cougars struck first, thanks to a one-yard touchdown run from redshirt freshman Luke Falk, who led Washington State on a 10-play, 53-yard scoring drive.

Kelly finished 7-15 with 110 passing yards, but was sacked four times and struggled to find his footing in the early going, ending the half with -25 rushing yards.

A 17-yard rushing touchdown by junior running back D.J. Foster tied the game just eight seconds into the second quarter. Foster ran for 47 yards on five carries and caught two passes for 38 yards.

Falk passed for 329 yards and two more touchdowns, including an 11-play, 75 yard drive that regained the lead, and another that capped a six play, 80 yard drive with less than five minutes to go in the half.

The backup who has started in place of Connor Halliday since he suffered a broken leg against USC on Nov. 1 spread the ball around to seven different receivers, including senior Isaiah Meyers and redshirt senior Vince Mayle, who combined for 196 yards on 10 catches.

Falk  was picked off by senior defensive lineman Marcus Hardison to set up the game-tying drive, and Kelly found redshirt sophomore Fred Gammage for his first career touchdown catch from 10 yards out.

Washington State drove down the field during the following drive, and set up a 27-yard field goal from redshirt junior Quentin Breshears in the closing seconds of the half to take the lead.

The Cougars have the option to receive the second half kickoff.
