The ASU police officer accused of using excessive force against a University professor in May has received notice that ASU is terminating his employment, his attorney confirmed.
Last summer, Officer Stewart Ferrin attempted to stop English professor Ersula Ore for jaywalking. Ore refused to show identification and kicked Ferrin in the shin several times before she was arrested.
Mel McDonald said Ferrin has received notice of his termination that will be effective Jan. 21, but they plan to continue fighting this.
“We are going to fight this until we win,” McDonald said. “It is outrageous… We are in for a fight.”
Ore pleaded guilty last year to resisting arrest.
The University released a statement that said, “The review of the officer’s performance … has entered the phase in which the department will make a final determination about whether discipline is warranted.”
