ASU hockey fans had their worst fears realized Monday morning after a report surfaced saying that sophomore forward Ryan Ostertag would miss the remainder of the season with an undisclosed injury.

Ostertag has not played since ASU's opening weekend sweep of West Chester, suffering an undisclosed injury during practice the following week. Ostertag looked to be on the recovery trail after returning to practice in a non-contact jersey just two weeks ago.

Coming into the season with the expectation of being ASU's leading scorer, Ostertag's loss has been a disappointment. Ostertag had seven points (four goals, three assists) in three games for the Sun Devils this season.

Ostertag was the freshman hero for ASU last season, scoring two goals (including the game-winner) against Robert Morris to help ASU clinch its first ACHA national championship. He had 37 points (24 goals, 13 assists) in 30 games during the 2013-14 season.

No. 1 ASU (28-3-1) have five more games left in the regular season before entering postseason play, where they will attempt to repeat as ACHA national champions.
