Tempe Police: Officers approach man sleeping in vehicle, find several illegal substances


A 29-year-old Mesa man was arrested Feb. 11 at the 2000 block of East Rio Salado Parkway on suspicion of a having an outstanding warrant, according to the police report.

When police approached the vehicle, they found the man asleep in the driver’s seat with two uncapped syringes next to him, according to the report.

Officers conducted a records check on the man, which revealed an outstanding warrant, officers reported.

Officers performed a search of his vehicle, police reported. Officers found two baggies containing a black tar substance, a case with several pills, two scales, a spoon and several more syringes, according to the report.

Officers observed dried blood and a visible injection site on the man’s right arm, officers reported. The man admitted to officers he had just purchased and injected the heroin, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held on his outstanding warrant, according to the police report.

A 39-year-old Tempe man was arrested Feb. 10 at West Pebble Beach Drive and South Wilson Street on suspicion of possession of stolen property and possession of dangerous drugs, according to the police report.

Officers first contacted the man during a traffic stop, police reported.

During an investigation, police uncovered several stolen items in the man’s possession: an iPhone 5S, a Chase bank card and an Arizona driver’s license, officers reported. The man stated he found the property earlier in the day, according to the report.

The items found in the man’s possession were reported stolen from a vehicle earlier that day, officers reported.

Officers found the man was driving on a suspended license, according to the report. When officers searched his vehicle, they found a clear plastic wrapper containing meth, officers reported.

When officers asked the man if the meth was his, he said, “I guess so,” according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked pending release, according to the police report.
