Duke associate head coach Jeff Capel has removed himself from consideration for the ASU men's basketball coaching vacancy, according to CBS Sports' Gary Parrish and other media outlets.

Capel, who helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2014-15 men's basketball national title Monday, was pegged as the frontrunner for the job by media reports once Herb Sendek was fired on March 24.

ASU is still searching for Sendek's replacement, who was fired two weeks ago after advancing to just two NCAA Tournaments in nine seasons. Sender posted a 159-137 record during his tenure.

azcentral sports reported ASU is expected to announce its new coach soon, perhaps within 48 hours.

According to Doug Gottlieb, ASU had interviewed candidates the past week and that Capel was out before the day, while Jeff Goodman reported former ASU assistant Scott Pera interviewed with Ray Anderson on Saturday.
