He is the first player to be selected in the MLB Draft in the Tracy Smith era at ASU.
Lilek opened the 2015 season as ASU's No. 1 starter, but moved around from Friday to Saturday, Sunday and even spot relief roles in critical games for the Sun Devils.
He went 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA with a complete game in 17 appearances (15 starts) in 2015, striking out 66 batters and walking 41 in 78.2 innings en route to a All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection.
He was a three-time All-Pac-12 selection, including being named to the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2014.
MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds compared the Marlins' selection of Lilek to Los Angeles Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson.
The South Holland, Ill. native was selected in the 2012 MLB Draft out of Marian Catholic High School in the 37th round by the Seattle Mariners, but did not sign.
Lilek has until July 17 to sign his professional contract with the Marlins. If he does not sign, he may return to ASU for his senior season.
