In the first game of the U of A Tournament in Tucson, ASU soccer took on the University of San Francisco for a full 110 minutes but couldn't emerge victorious.

The Sun Devils (3-2-1) lost due to a golden goal in the final seconds of overtime, falling 2-1.

ASU came onto the field with a mission and executed fast and flawlessly in the first half.

In the second minute, junior forward Jazmarie Mader scored her fifth goal of the season. Redshirt freshman midfielder Kylie Miniefield passed the ball to Mader, who took a wide open shot in the 18-yard box to put ASU up early 1-0.

Head coach Kevin Boyd made the decision to start freshman Emma Malsy in goal after a tough loss on Sunday reopened the position.

At the half, the Sun Devils took 10 shots with five being on goal while the Dons only managed to get one shot through the ASU defense.

Late in the second half, USF came back to even the score.

A corner kick by the Dons lead to a battle in a crowded 18-yard box. A couple shot attempts were deflected by Malsy, but USF managed to get one through to tie the score 1-1 in the 80th minute.

ASU took 17 shots while SFU took six, but neither team would come out victorious within the regular allotted 90 minutes, so overtime ensued.

A golden goal by USF with 45 seconds left in overtime sealed the game. A 40-yard shot by sophomore midfielder Micaela Mercado loomed right over the head of Malsy to win the game 2-1.

The Sun Devils will be back in action Sunday at 11 a.m. to battle Northern Illinois in Tucson.
