ASU track and field's Ewen dominates again, moves into NCAA history

The Sun Devils traveled to three meets to showcase their talent

The ASU track and field team sent its athletes to three different meets, but redshirt senior Magdalyn Ewen was the talk of the weekend after throwing a world-leading mark in shot put.

The Sun Devils were sent all over the map to compete over the weekend; the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock, Texas, Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and the Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque, N.M.

At the Don Kirby Elite meet, Ewen showed that she is truly living up to the hype she is receiving. Ewen broke two of her personal records, extending her school record in the weight throw and shot put.

In shot put, her throw of 19.20m on day two put her at third all-time in collegiate history.

ASU sent some of their top competitors to the Don Kirby Elite meet.

Ewen broke her own school record in the weight throw with a throw of 22.26m. In third place was redshirt sophomore Kaylee Antill with a new personal record of 19.47m.

Redshirt freshman Samantha Noennig is also continuing to make a name for herself with a throw of 17.02m.

In the men’s pole vault, freshman Cole Riddle placed seventh, the top mark for the Sun Devil men with a vault of 17-4.50. Following behind Riddle was Freshman Michael Chadwick at 17-0.75. Redshirt senior Nathan Hiett placed in eleventh at 16-6.75.

Ewen is now third all-time in women’s collegiate indoor shot put at 19.20m behind Olympian Raven Saunders at 19.56m and 2012 Olympian Tia Brooks at 19.22m. Noennig placed in fourth behind Ewen at 16.59m.

In the women’s pole vault, senior pole vaulter Kristiana Warth had a ninth place finish with vault of 12-9.50. Senior Haleigh Fritts and freshman Tommi Hintnaus tied for twenty-third place at 11-9.75.
