The Sun Devils' 12th practice took place on Friday with the weather being around 100 degrees.

"Guys' bodies are probably a little more tired than what they are used to," redshirt senior quarterback Manny Wilkins said.

With players warming up to open practice in their respective groups, the o-line worked on their footwork as they shuffled their feet in a squatting position.

"Drive till you here the whistle," o-line coach Dave Christensen told his players as they pushed a medicine ball against another o-lineman's chest.

Players were told to stay low and to explode with their legs. Other drills saw the o-line hitting medicine balls back on the line as they slid from start to end.

The running backs were also involved in the blocking scheme as running backs coach John Simon acted as the quarterback. The ability to pick up pass rushers has been something that the offense has focused on.

On the second field, linebackers coach Antonio Pierce had players shedding blocks and tackling a rolling pad.

"Pad level down and stay low," Pierce said to his players.

Redshirt senior linebacker Koron Crump took part in the drill, but instead of diving for tackles, he wrapped up the pad.

The linebackers then moved on to intercepting passes. Players back-peddled and jumped routes as Pierce lobbed them passes.

As the defense was working on intercepting passes, Wilkins and the offense worked on an offense-only drill.

The offense ran through multiple scenarios, and worked on its "Sparky" package, with sophomore running back Eno Benjamin taking the snap and redshirt sophomore running back Isaiah Floyd taking the option handoffs.

As the offense shuffled from first to second teams, redshirt sophomore quarterback Kurt Walding took snaps after a couple strong days competing for the No. 2 position on the quarterback depth chart.

"I've been really impressed with him," Wilkins said of Walding. "I envy him for picking up an offense so fast, really smart kid."

Plays that stood out:

As 11-on-11 drills developed, Wilkins found Williams on the left side for a deep completion. Robertson was able to punch the ball out from Wilkins after he scrambled upfield.

Wilkins was also picked by sophomore cornerback Langston Frederick, who made a replicating diving interception from last Saturday's scrimmage.

After a water break and switching to the number one field, goal line offense was introduced as Wilkins was able to find a cutting Williams in the middle of the end zone.

Coach Herm Edwards was in the back of the end zone and noticed that Robertson was beaten and looked upset.

"Merlin, that's ok baby," Edwards said.

At the end of practice, the Sun Devils finished with a 32-yard goal by sophomore kicker Brandon Ruiz.

Other Notes: Cohl Cabral participated in practice, but sat out on 11-on-11 as he is still recovering from a knee injury that he suffered in last Saturday's scrimmage. Coach Christensen said Steven Miller should be back at practice this upcoming week.
