ASU Hockey improved to 3-3 on the season after sweeping Air Force in USAFA, Colorado in matches on Friday and Saturday night.

Friday

ASU earned its first shutout win of the season on Friday night as they defeated the Falcons 3-0.

Sophomore goaltender Evan DeBrouwer was sharp, tallying 15 saves on 15 shots.

The Falcons were held to just seven shots in the first two periods and could muster only three shots on four power play attempts.

In contrast, the Sun Devils had no trouble getting shots off. The team racked up 23 shots in Friday’s contest.

Senior forward Tyler Busch had the first goal for the Sun Devils in the second period after a scoreless opening frame.

Junior forward Johnny Walker added to that lead with a goal of his own in the third period. This was followed by an empty netter by junior forward William Knierim, effectively sealing the game for the Sun Devils.

Saturday

ASU completed its sweep of Air Force in a 5-2 victory Saturday night.

DeBrouwer shined with 38 saves on 40 shots, a career high for the sophomore. ASU’s penalty kill came through as the Falcons scored on just one of seven power play attempts.

Five different Sun Devils scored in the contest. Sophomore forward Demetrios Koumontzis scored on the power play just over a minute into the first period. Junior forward James Sanchez made it 2-0 with a goal in the second period.

In the third period, goals by freshman forward Logan Jenuwine (his first as a Sun Devil) and sophomore defenseman Joshua Maniscalco gave ASU a 4-2 lead. An empty netter by Knierim put the game on ice.

The Sun Devils will head back to Tempe for a two-game series against Quinnipiac on Nov. 1.
