Fitness classes are just one of the things offered for free at the SDFC

The Sun Devil Fitness Center (SDFC) is one of the biggest college fitness centers in the United States. Students here have access to pools, weight rooms, basketball courts, and much more. Not only can students come to the gym and workout on their own, but they also have access to numerous free fitness classes taught by instructors all day every day.

Ashley Dussault: I wanted to be an instructor because I have had a firsthand experience with how fitness can influence your life. When I was in high school, I lost about 30 pounds and it really changed my life. I started going to group classes, and I really liked it. And I also really enjoy teaching, so I thought that it would be a really great way to fuse both passions together.

I would say that if people aren't aware, they should definitely come check them out. They are included with the fees that people pay for the gym. You don't have to have any additional costs for coming, because you have technically already paid for it. You should get your money's worth. It's also a really great way—no matter what your level is—to be able to get involved in fitness. Whether you're a beginner, you're going to learn all of the tools that you need to succeed. And if you're advanced, it's just a really great way to form community, and to really progress, and maybe learn some things that you didn't know before.

Mary Jane O'Gara: So my parents are both fitness instructors, and I just have been surrounded by that since I was really little. And then, I saw that there was a program here at SDFC, and I just knew I had to do it.

I just like the fitness classes honestly. I think that my team of fitness instructors are great. I think that they also realize that some students, this might be their first class, so they try to be really accommodating. We are just a great team overall.
