No. 2 ASU women’s golf fought back from a sixth-place ranking after round one to finish in fourth place at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.

After a day one performance in which the team finished with a 292 (+4) score, the Sun Devils moved up three spots in the standings across rounds two and three to finish with a 869 (+5) final tally.

Freshman Linn Grant led the way for ASU, finishing five under par and placing top-10 on the player leaderboard with a final score of 211.

The Sun Devils tied for second in birdies with 52, 15 of which were collected by Grant, who tied for first in birdies individually.

The native of Sweden also tied for third in par-4 scoring with a 3.90 (-3) average, which helped ASU to tie for second as a team on par-4’s with an average of 4.09 (+13).

Competing in the third competition of her collegiate career, freshman Amanda Linner led the team with 37 pars, which placed her in the top-ten among all golfers.

Sophomore Alessandra Fanali was sharp on par-3 holes, tying for first in scoring with a 2.83 (-2) average.

Senior Olivia Mehaffey, who tied for second in par-5 scoring average at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, California, maintained her pace in Mexico, tying for third in par-5 scoring with a 4.58 (-5) tally.

It was yet another top-five finish for the Sun Devils, who haven’t placed below that mark all season.

The team will have less than a month to train before heading to Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii to compete in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course starting March 10.
