ASU then-freshman forward Filips Buncis (17) drives towards the net to take a shot in a game against Princeton at Oceanside Ice Arena in Tempe, Arizona, on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017.

Filips Buncis, a junior forward for Sun Devil hockey, traveled from his home country of Latvia to the United States in order to pursue his hockey dreams. Filips is a business communication student and loves school but plans on playing hockey for as long as possible.

As a junior, Filips notched a collegiate-best, scoring 4 goals and 8 assists. Filips also had two game-winning goals this past season and contributed heavy minutes as a center between the second and third lines, according to Filips' player bio.

Before coming to Arizona, Filips played three seasons of junior hockey (NAHL) with the Johnstown Tomahawks, and he also played for Team Latvia at the U20 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in 2016-17.
