No. 9 ASU women's golf finished first in the Bruin Wave Invitational in Somis, California, and No. 3 men's golf finished fifth in the Cabo Collegiate Invitational in San Antonio this past week.
Bruin Wave Invitational
Sophomore Linn Grant finished in first place on the individual leaderboard at the Bruin Wave Invitational by shooting four strokes over par. The finish continues her perfect start to the season, finishing in sole possession of first twice and tying for first once with fellow Sun Devil Alexandra Forsterling.
ASU as a team finished in first with a 14-stroke lead over second-place Northwestern.
Junior Alessandra Fanali ended the tournament second among Sun Devils and tied for seventh place overall, finishing 14 strokes over par. Freshman Ashley Menne tied for 12th by finishing 16 strokes over par.
Sophomore Amanda Linner and fifth-year senior Olivia Mehaffey finished tied for 19th and 28th, respectively. Forsterling, who competed as an individual, finished 24 strokes over par.
The course at The Saticoy Club in Somis, California was troublesome, as no golfer finished at or under par.
ASU will compete next at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Arizona starting on March 12.
Cabo Collegiate Invitational
The Sun Devils failed to defend its Cabo Collegiate title from 2020, as the team finished fifth. Oklahoma took the top spot by finishing four strokes under par.
ASU entered the third day in fourth place before Texas Tech rose six spots and finished two strokes better than ASU.
Sophomore David Puig continued to lead the way for the Sun Devils, finishing as the highest Sun Devil on the leaderboard and the team's only player to not finish over par.
Senior Mason Andersen led all Sun Devils after the first day by shooting two strokes over par and improved to one stroke over par after day two. Andersen finished the tournament two strokes over par, tied for 17th in the player rankings.
Sophomore Ryggs Johnston finished tied for 26th, and fifth-year senior Chun An Yu tied for 31st. Junior Cameron Sisk finished eight strokes over par.
The men's squad will compete next at the Valspar Collegiate Tournament in Palm City, Florida starting on March 15.
