The Foo Fighters ended the Sonic Highways World Tour on a sober note. After the tragedy in Paris, the band cancelled its remainder of shows out of respect for those who lost their lives. But fans of the last bastion of 2000s rock 'n' roll can't be too disappointed after news of a surprise release of their new EP titled “Saint Cecilia.”

Psychedelic rock is experiencing a slight resurgence in the underground music scene as bands strap on guitars and blast hazy riffs out into the world. Flagstaff natives Coffee Pot bring to life a surf and jazz-tinged version of the resurgent sound with their debut eponymous record. The result is an extremely promising debut from a group of rockers that have room to grow.

Darkness and grime cover the street as Phoenix denizens descended on the Crescent Ballroom. The reason for the gathering: DIIV. The New York native, Zachary Cole Smith brought a full band to play dream pop tunes to a sizable crowd.

The jump from experimental producer to pop star is a gutsy jump for any artist to make, but Skylar Spence has all but stuck the landing. Ryan DeRobertis, a Long Island native, took advantage from signing to Carpark Records to leave his past as vaporwave producer, Saint Pepsi. Under his new moniker, DeRobertis crafted nu-disco tracks the old-fashioned way, recording each instrument one by one, thus leading to a full band being a part of his tour.

Anyone who has listened to a radio or watched MTV in the last two decades is familiar with a few things: 1) Nu-metal is an angry genre of rock, 2) MTV doesn’t show music videos like it used to, but when they did, 3) Korn was king of MTV’s nu-metal era. The omnipresent Bakersfield quintet is the biggest nu-metal group to come out of the early '90s and has steadily dominated the world over.
