Arizona may be a red state, but there are plenty of places in the Valley that teach more liberal point of views. Those in search of a shrine dedicated to hippie culture of decades past needn’t go any farther than Old Town Scottsdale, where the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) is currently showing “West of Center: Art and the Counterculture Experiment in America, 1965-1977.”
It is not surprising that many celebrities don’t write their own memoirs and autobiographies. What is surprising is that even with the help of professional ghostwriters, these celebrity memoirs are still bad. The celebrity memoir market seems saturated, yet these books continue to be published and heavily marketed, making their way to the top of bestseller lists. Here are some of the worst celebrity tell-all’s, autobiographies and memoirs of the decade.

Poor November gets a raw deal. Nov. 1 should be dedicated to feeling queasy after overindulging in Halloween candy, taking down Jack-o’-Lantern decorations, but leaving out the pumpkins and knowing that your stomach has a good three weeks to recover before Thanksgiving.

A new season of television is approaching and with it comes the reappearance of the usual reality shows and scripted shows that are predictably set in New York and Los Angeles. Some shows try to break away from the norm. “The Office” was charmingly set in Scranton, Pa., albeit filmed in California, and “Breaking Bad” made Albuquerque infamous. Some reality shows try to diversify televised locales by choosing to film their competitions and catfights in underrepresented cities. One state is still begging to be portrayed on the small screen — Arizona. It’s time to show our fine state some love, so the The State Press has compiled a list of the top five reality shows that need to happen in Tempe.
They may not have the glitz and glam of the Tony’s — a Neil Patrick Harris appearance has yet to be confirmed — but on Sept. 17, Tempe Center for the Arts will host the Valley’s own version, the 22nd annual ariZoni’s, which honor excellence in Arizona theater.
Alan Dean Foster visited ASU Wednesday when he made an appearance at the opening of Noble Science Library’s new exhibit, “End of the Golden Age: Science Fiction Before and After the Atomic Bomb.”

She has been praised for upholding a wholesome image. Part of her popularity is due to how relatable she is. Her songs are taken straight from the pages of her diary, and chronicle one high-profile romance and subsequent heartbreak after another.
Three members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years in prison last Friday, Aug. 17, for their participation in a protest performance against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
