Sick of eating only at the Verde Dining Pavilion? Ready to expand your food choices beyond Denny’s and Panda Express? Try one the these top Asian restaurant options right by the West Campus dorms!

Pho Avina

Pho Avina has been open and running for eight years under the leadership of Avina Pham. It is located across from campus on the opposite side of Thunderbird Road and 49th Avenue, and is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Serving an array of Vietnamese options, this restaurant prides itself on its plethora of options ranging from different flavors of soup — their most recommended dish — to Com Dia, their rice entrees. The most popular item with students is the boba tea which is many flavors, and has a “snow ice” option.

For a meal prices range from $6 to $14.

Fun fact: At the restaurant, you may be served and helped by none other than Avina Pham's mother, Ms. Pham!

Bangkok Thai Bar-B-Q

Bangkok Thai is a little farther from campus, but still within walking distance for those living on campus being off of 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road, and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. all week. Bangkok Thai is clean and decorated in red with white lamps hanging over all the booths. Their most popular food items, according to owner Manola Louvon, is the spicy noodles and Pad Thai. She also recommended that students try the Tom yum soup which is spicy, sour and filled with Thai herbs. Prices here range from $9 to $15, but if students come in Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. they can a special deal of $6.99 for soup, spring roll and main dish.

Fun Fact: Louvon’s peanut sauce that comes with the spring roll is so popular many customers ask her to bottle it to take home!

OHYA Sushi and Korean Kitchen & Bar

OH YA is the closest Asian restaurant to campus. All you have to do is leave the dorms and cross Thunderbird Road and you’re in the parking lot for OHYA. It’s useful because OHYA is also open the latest from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Mondays, and 2 a.m. Friday through Saturday (The close Sundays close at 11 p.m.).

You can order a variety of options from sushi, to Korean BBQ, to different styles of noodles. According to head sushi chef George Morales, the most popular items on the menu are the different Bulgogi options, which cost about $15 for two people at dinner time. The Bulgogi can be ordered from the kitchen, or you can make it yourself on the built in stove at the table.

In addition, the sushi rolls are popular with students. Offered are traditional roles such as california rolls and spicy tuna, by Morales is also proud of the unique roles he created including the “OHYA” roll which is covered in green paper, and has salmon, rice, shrimp tempura, peach sauce and fresh mango. Their sushi rolls range from $3 to $12, and their dinner entrees usually run for 10 to $17.

Fun Fact: Oh Ya actually has 5 student employees working at its location according to the manager!
