Heading into the five-minute overtime period against Lake Superior State, ASU hockey was facing two more "firsts" in a season that has already seen many for the new NCAA program.

Would the Sun Devils come out with their first tie? Or would they earn their first sweep and road sweep of a Division I team?

Jordan Masters had the answer when his goal with 32 seconds remaining in overtime gave the team a 3-2 win and its first sweep of a DI opponent.

The Sun Devils (4-6) led 2-1 late in regulation, but was called for a penalty with 2:35 left. Lake Superior State's Gus Correale scored a power play goal with 52 seconds left.

Then, the Sun Devils were called for a penalty just 13 seconds into overtime. When needed most, the team killed the Lake Superior State (2-8-2) power play.

A night after Joe Lappin's two goals powered the Sun Devils to their first 3-2 win of the weekend, Charlie Zuccarini and Ryan Stevens scored the first two goals.

However, it is also worth noting that ASU failed to convert on all four of its power plays. The Lakers, on the other hand, scored two goals in six opportunities, which kept them in the game.

Freshman Ryland Pashovitz started in net for the Sun Devils for the fourth-straight road game and tallied 34 saves, which was another strong performance in what has been an impressive season for him thus far. And with Robert Levin still out with an ankle injury, the team has relied heavily on Pashovitz for the time being.

In addition, Lake Superior State won six more faceoffs and took five more shots than the Sun Devils.

ASU also improved to 3-1 against the WCHA conference this season.

ASU hockey will now go into its second bye week in three weeks before heading to New York for two games with Clarkson University on Thanksgiving weekend. The Sun Devils do not return to Oceanside Ice Arena until Dec. 4. and 5 to play the University of Alberta.
