The 2016 Olympics will be Michael Phelps' last, but it won't be the final time he's involved in competitive swimming.

He has agreed to be an assistant coach for ASU swim and dive during the 2016-17 year, according to The Arizona Republic.

Phelps has the most Olympic medals of any athlete who has participated in the games. He has amassed 28 Olympic medals — 23 of which are gold.

Phelps is the third ASU personnel who will be part of the U.S. Swim team. ASU head coach Bob Bowman is the head coach of the national team, and ASU's trainer Keenan Robinson will perform duties in Rio as well.

Current assistant coach Misty Hyman also has Olympic experience. She won a gold medal in 2000 at the Olympics in Sydney.
