The ASU gymnastics team had another tough meet on bars against Oregon State on Saturday night.

Freshman Katelyn Lentz and senior Taylor Allex both recorded falls in the event.

Bars have been a focus of practices for the Gym Devils in the last week, head coach René Lyst said in an interview on Thursday.

After the meet, she said that in the upcoming week, the team will continue to work on pressure sets and getting other girls ready to compete in the event.

“I thought we competed fairly well,” Lyst said. “We were consistent and aggressive in what we were doing, I think the team did a good job tonight.”

The team had a good showing on vault, improving the team score slightly from last week’s meet.

Freshmen Eileen Imbus and Corinne Belkoff both had career high scores in the event with each scoring a 9.600.

Allex placed first overall on vault with a score of 9.850.

Freshman Morgan Wilson’s injury to her Achilles will affect the team in vault the most, Lyst said.

On beam, freshmen Justine Callis and Katelyn Lentz posted career high scores. Callis scored a 9.725 and Lentz scored a 9.825 placing third overall.

Allex had another good performance on floor, placing second overall with a 9.875, while freshman Heather Udowitch competed in her first floor event this season, scoring a 9.650.

“We’re going to keep training like we have been,” Lyst said. “We’ve been improving every week in our performances and we’re getting better every week in a lot of ways.”

Senior Allie Salas competed in the all-around again for the Gym Devils placing second with a score of 38.875. Lentz also competed in the all-around finishing third with a score of 38.100.

“Overall the team is growing and improving and we’ll just keep moving in that direction,” Lyst said.
