An unidentified body was found in Tempe Town Lake early Thursday afternoon, according to Tempe Police.

The subject was a man of unknown race who has yet to be identified, Tempe Police spokesperson Lt. Michael Pooley said.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., two eyewitnesses crossing Scottdale Road Bridge saw an object in the lake that appeared to be a body, according to police.

The witnesses flagged down a pontoon boat and called 911, Pooley said.

Officers pulled the body to shore and are still investigating the scene as well as the contents of the man's pockets and backpack, according to police.
