Tempe Police: Man tackled when the owner of the car he was stealing from spots him

The Tempe Police station, which is located on Fifth Avenue near College Avenue. 


Tempe Police reported the following incident Tuesday:

A Buckeye man was arrested April 18 on the 100 block of East 15th Street on suspicion of burglary, according to a police report.

The man entered an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway and removed sunglasses, glasses and an iPad power cord, which totaled about $350, according to the report.

The car owner saw the man rooting around in his car and started chasing him, according to the report. After a short chase, the car owner tackled the man and recovered his personal items, police reported.

The man continued to run away, but officers were able to find him, according to the report.

During an interview with officers, he admitted to seeing the open car door and talking things out of it.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges.
