Splish, splash, and some sorority women are one way to raise money for a good cause. This week, Gamma Phi Beta is hosting their annual Gamma Games, which will benefit the Phoenix chapter of the American Diabetes Foundation.
Different fraternities and campus organizations have signed up for the festivities, which include a tug of war, volleyball, and football tournament, a 'Single Out' event, and a car wash.
“We not only have fraternities participating, but we also have a couple of members of Devil’s Advocates and the REACH program to participate,” said Gamma Phi Beta philanthropy chair Angela Zandonella.
On Wednesday, the groups involved converged on Adelphi Commons and decorated the Gamma Phi Beta sorority floor to show their support for the sorority and their philanthropy. The Theta Chi, Sigma Pi, and Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternities won the top spots in the decorating contest.
On Thursday evening, the sorority hosted their own version of 'Singled Out,' an MTV-inspired dating show. Men from eight fraternities and the campus organizations competed to win dates with two Gamma Phi Beta sisters.
Friday, between 12 and 4 p.m., the Gamma Phi’s will be getting wet while washing cars for donations at the Chevron station on the corner of McClintock and Broadway roads.
The tug of war, football, and volleyball tournaments will be held this Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of the Gamma Games.
Rhea Hernandez, Gamma Phi Beta Public Relations Vice President said all the proceeds will go to the Phoenix chapter of the American Diabetes Foundation.
Last year, Gamma Games raised $1500 with the participation of six fraternities. This year, the sorority has the support of nine fraternities and two student organizations.
“We have already raised over $2000 and we still have the car wash to go, so we may raise over $2500,” said Zandonella.
