A pipe that runs underneath McAllister Avenue ruptured Friday, flooding the street and forcing it to close from University Drive to Orange Street.
The pipe ruptured at approximately 10 a.m., and McAllister was immediately blocked off as construction crews began digging down the middle of the street trying to find the source of the leakage. It was unclear whether the pipe, which delivers water to a fire hydrant along the street, belonged to ASU or the city of Tempe.
The cause was not immediately known, said Polly Pinney, assistant director of operations for facilities management.
Facilities management officials have had their hands full since a chilled water pipe burst in the Goldwater building Oct. 8. Last week, a sewer pipe broke in the Business Administration building, spilling raw sewage into the basement. Both buildings are being cleaned and repaired.
Pinney said the incidents were not related.
“There’s no linkage, she said. “They’re (the leaks) all from different sources. It’s just incidents that happened to happen together.”
