A 19-year-old broadcasting freshman was found dead Monday night in Best Hall.

Andrew Tucker was found shortly before 10 p.m. by ASU police.

Tucker's friends had tried to reach him for a few days and asked a Best Hall desk assistant to contact ASU police, said ASU spokesman Keith Jennings. The police were called at 9:40 p.m. Monday to investigate.

Police officials said there was no sign of foul play. The Maricopa County Medical Examiners Office will determine the cause of death.

ASU detectives are investigating the case.

Danny Gerrity, a civil engineering sophomore who lived across the hall from Tucker, said that Tucker was a nice guy.

"Everybody thought he was a great guy, and every time I saw him he was telling jokes and making people laugh," Gerrity said.

Tucker's parents, who live in Lubbock, Texas, were notified Tuesday morning and flew to Arizona.

ASU Residential Life officials declined to comment.

Christine Lewis, a family friend who answered the phone at the Texas home, said Tucker liked to be around his friends more than anything else, and that he was excited about the start of the semester.

"He lived a very Christian life," Lewis said. "He was a really great guy."

Jeremy Foster, an industrial engineering sophomore and a Best Hall resident assistant, said Tucker was a desk assistant at the dorm and was well-liked.

"He worked the 2-6 a.m. shifts that nobody else wanted to take," Foster said. "Everybody called him 'Punk Rock' because he had these great sideburns. He used to sleep in the dorm lounge because his roommate would snore. He didn't even care."

Members of ASU's Counseling and Consultation crisis response team are available for students who want to talk about Tucker's death.

Mark Groberski, associate director of the Counseling and Crisis Center, said something of this magnitude can shake students.

"People aren't expecting things like this to happen at college," he said. "We'll be available to help students deal with their feelings and how they're reacting."
