Associated Students of ASU presidential candidates made a final push to promote their platforms in a televised debate before the runoff elections today and Tuesday.

The two remaining presidential candidates, political science junior Meghan Cox and microbiology junior Mike Leingang, participated in the first televised ASASU debate Friday, sponsored by the Web Devil and Channel 2.

Web Devil reporter Michael Ferraresi moderated the debate, which will air 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. today on Channel 2.

Cox said she was disappointed with the event.

"It wasn't really a debate," Cox said. "There was no chance for rebuttal."

Leingang said it was a good concept, but there were problems.

"I had never been on TV before," he said. "Secondly, they asked a lot of general questions that we both felt the same way on."

In last month's general elections, Cox won 1,150 votes, and Leingang garnered 899 total votes. Neither candidate received a majority of all student votes, which would have earned them the presidency.

Elections director Crystal Bennes said she thinks the number of voters in the run-offs will decrease since there aren't as many candidates like there were in general elections.

Cox has held several positions in ASASU, working in offices of the president and executive vice president. She has also served as director of the college counsels.

Leingang, currently an ASASU senator, co-founded Bill 57 to repeal the ASASU constitution to create a new, more effective student government, which voters approved in the general elections.

Camille Butler and Kimberly Peterson, Senate candidates for the College of Nursing, will also go to the runoff since they tied in the general election with six votes.

On the election days, there will be a link on ASU's interactive Web site to a voting page anytime from 7 a.m. today until 9 p.m. Tuesday. Staffed polling locations will be in the Student Recreation Complex and the Memorial Union 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and outside the Computing Commons and at Palm Walk and Tyler Mall 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
