A Tempe man was killed late last week after suffering severe blows to the head, Tempe police said.
Police found Jerry Corbitt, 46, lying unconscious near the corner of Priest and University drives at about 12:30 Thursday morning.
Corbitt was transported to Maricopa County Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.
"We (police) got a call from someone in the neighborhood. Someone had heard something, so we went for a welfare check," said Tempe police spokesman Dan Masters. "We found Corbitt lying in the street with obvious head trauma."
Masters said the injuries were obviously the result of someone else's actions, but it is unclear what kind of weapon was used. No weapon was found at the scene.
Corbitt lived on the 500 block of S. Albert Ave., a few blocks from where police found him.
"I am not sure what Corbitt was doing out at that time of the night," Masters said.
