Theta Chi kicked out of on-campus house

The ASU Greek system has taken another blow with the announcement Wednesday that Theta Chi fraternity has received a one-year suspension and a two-year disciplinary probation.

The suspension means that the fraternity must move out of their on-campus house.

"[University officials] are shutting us down for not having control over our house and violating the code of conduct," said Mike Leingang, Theta Chi member and president of the Associated Students of ASU.

The fraternity's involvement in a pornographic video, "Shane's World #29: Frat Row Scavenger Hunt 3," which was filmed on campus last fall, was a contributing factor in the decision. Parts of the video were filmed in the fraternity's house.

"Which means being under close watch… you can expect check-ups by police officers," Leingang said.

Theta Chi is the fourth fraternity to be suspended in the past year. Sigma Nu, Phi Sigma Kappa and Sigma Phi Epsilon are the other three fraternities.

No University officials were available to comment on the situation, and a formal letter regarding the suspension has not yet been sent.

As a rush event went on inside, members outside the house had no comment about the situation.

"I don't agree with the decision and fully expect to be able to appeal," Leingang said. "With the current housing situation, a one year suspension is a death sentence."
