For everyone who saw the Mike Tyson/Clifford Etienne fight Saturday, please raise your hand if you thought that Etienne took a fall.
OK, everyone can put their hands down.
Tyson's sixth-fastest knock out of his career was not like the classics we cherish from the 1980s. With one blow, he knocked Etienne to the canvas in just 49 seconds.
The problem I had with the fight was the circus that led up to the actual bout. Just last Tuesday, Etienne told reporters that there was no way he would fight Tyson on Saturday. Then two days later, he had a change of heart, saying that he made a promise to fight and that he would honor it.
In my eyes, in the eyes of 15, 717 fans that packed in to the Pyramid in Memphis, and in the eyes of Iron Mike himself, Etienne wanted nothing to do with Tyson, but wanted everything to do with the pay day that came with it.
