The Associated Students of ASU voted to take issue with the vague wording of a recently approved student code of conduct.
Honors College Sen. Kyle Burns drafted a petition that opposed the code because of wording that states all students who participate in extracurricular activities must represent the University with "honor, dignity and integrity."
Burns, among others, feels this wording is subjective and could be construed to punish a student acting within their civil rights.
"I'm pleased with [the vote for the petition]," Burns said. "I think it's an expression of the entire student government that there's work that needs to be done."
The Office of Student Affairs created the code of conduct in January as a response to the porn scandal involving former ASASU Executive Vice President Brian Buck.
ASASU President-elect and Barrett Honors College Sen. Brandon Goad has been a supporter of the code but said he wants student affairs to include an appeals process in the new policy.
"I plan to push forward with this because it's what the students deserve," Goad said.
