Obstacle Course: Construction updates on campus

Since there are less people on campus during the summer, construction projects constantly spring up within the Universities boundaries. For our visitors, students, staff and faculty, this can make it difficult to maneuver around the grounds. The following is a list of projects that are currently underway. Click here for more information on the projects.

Railroad work University Drive between Farmer and Ash avenues will be closed starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday through 3 p.m. on Sunday to allow the Union Pacific Railroad to remove and replace deteriorated railroad crossing material with new concrete panels.

MU Union Square: Union Square is Phase I of the Memorial Union Expansion and Renovation project. It will include four different food service venues, additional seating and program space. The terrace along Orange Mall will also be expanded for out door seating and special programs. This project will be completed before classes start for the fall 2003 semester.

Palm Walk, "North Tunnel Reconstruction/Repair Project:" The project includes the removal/replacement of the tunnel roof slab (which also serves as the walkway surface) and isolated tunnel wall repairs along Palm Walk tunnel between the south end of the Life Sciences Building and the B-Wing of the Bateman Physical Science Center (approximately 450 feet). The project intersects with Tyler Mall and, so as not to close off this important east to west route during construction, will be completed in two phases over the summer break.

Terrace and McAllister roads: A project to narrow Terrace Road between Rural and McAllister roads began Friday and will continue through spring 2004. It will continue to be 2-way traffic with pedestrian and bicycle lanes and all bus stops will remain the same. McAllister Road between Terrace/Orange and Tyler Street will also be narrowed. This will also remain two-way traffic with all bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the west side of McAllister Road. Visitor parking lot 51, at the corner of College Avenue and University Drive, is currently under construction and will be replaced with the ASU Foundation. The project will be finished August 2004. All visitors are invited to park in the Tempe Center, at the corner of University Drive and Mill Avenue.
