Review: Game Boy Player

Experts say that people my age are consider Nintendo junkies. I don't know who these experts are, but they say that. We grew up on Nintendo. Mario was our Mickey.

I admit; I was excited about the Nintendo Gamecube, but the Game Boy Advance was more of thrill because of all the old classics I used to play being ported over.

The problem with GBA was that the screen was way too dark to even see some of the better games like the Castlevania series or Metroid Fusion. GBA SP helped some, but these games need to be played on the big screen. I'm talking on the television. Enter the Game Boy Player.

The Game Boy Player is a sweet attachment for the Gamecube. It plays every Game Boy game imaginable. Not just GBA games, but older Game Boy games. Super Mario Land works with this thing.

The Game Boy Player is reminiscent of the Super Game Boy for the Super Nintendo, but it is far beyond what the Super Game Boy could have ever been.

For once in Nintendo's life, they are utilizing the expansion ports built into the system. The Game Boy Player looks less like an attachment and more like it was built straight into the Gamecube.

The Game Boy Player allows you to adjust the screen size of your game. You can go either full screen or have a nice border around it. There are 20 different borders to choose from.

It also allows you to sharpen the game to where it doesn't look so grainy anymore. I didn't see any real difference, but it's sort of like the Playstation 2's ability to anti-alias older Playstation games.

This device is a must-have for all Gamecube owners.
