Although the pay-for-printing policy was put into effect just last week to charge East students 5 cents to print anywhere on campus, students said they already have seen the effects of the new policy.

"It's been pretty quiet [in the Computing Commons]," technical support analyst senior Bert Valenzuela said. "[The policy] definitely cut down waste to the point of being almost nonexistent."

Aviation management technology senior Michael Valentine said he thought the new policy was a good idea because it would limit the amount of copies students could print.

"I've seen people print 60 pages before," he said. "It would be good to limit the cost to 5 cents and not get any higher."

Patricia Schneider, a Technology Systems Analyst coordinator, said a few students had posted "jeers" on The Insider, East's electronic student publication, to which she responded with a follow-up letter explaining the costs and reasons behind having to implement this particular system.

"Then three students responded positively," she said.

The fee for printing at East is 5 cents, compared to 8 cents per printed side at Main campus.

Sarah Diehl, a business administration senior at both east and main campuses, said, "It's worked pretty well. I managed to print out everything I needed for my classes already. I will probably wait to print out stuff here as opposed to Main. It's cheaper here."

Graphic information technology senior Ryan Paterick said the program was necessary.

"People weren't just printing 20-page reports anymore," he said. "They were printing 250 pages or more of - who knows what."
