A fashion emergency is sweeping ASU, and we simply must put an end to one of the most offensive fashion crimes to hit campus: faux designer purses. It is almost impossible to walk down Palm Walk these days without being visually bombarded by garish rip-offs of high-end designer bags.
And frankly, it has got to stop.
It is one thing to carry around a faux bag with a sense of tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, but it is quite another to walk around clutching a Fouis Vuitton purse and desperately attempting to pass it off as the real thing.
It is time to face the facts, ladies, you are simply not fooling anyone, and it looks ridiculous to boot.
Even the most untrained eye can tell that your Fouis bags are made out of vinyl not leather, that Prada is spelled "Prauda" and that those monograms on your Coach wannabe are Gs rather than Cs.
Not only that, but anyone who cares enough about fashion to be impressed by a designer bag knows that there is a waiting list a mile long for many of the hottest new bags. If Sarah Jessica Parker can't get her hands on the newest Louis Vuitton, are we honestly supposed to believe that scores of ASU co-eds somehow can?
And who really spends that kind of money on a purse only to carry it around school so it can get dirty and ruined?
Why not take the money you spent on that faux bag and buy yourself a clue? If you cannot afford the real thing, stick to the many well-made purses in lower price ranges and help nip this tacky trend in the bud.
